  Sat Feb 28 10:58:21 2009 - Needless to say, I've given this a lot of thought and worry lately even though the solution was literally in the shop. The FT-60, aka the "red-cube", from Electronics International is a .6 to 70+ GPH fuel flow transducer. I chose this installation method for a number of reasons: 1) it is approved by EI on certified aircraft 2) this setup should be immune to errors when the boost pump is "ON", 3) keeps hose lengths to a minimum 4) Rob Hickman of AFS recommends and successfully uses this setup on his RV-10 setup. The short/lower hose is a Parker/Stratoflex 124F002-4CR-0034 and the longer/upper hose is a 124F001-4CR-0062. I ordered them from Precision Hose Technology. The transducer position/orientation is _very_ important. Otherwise, it may hit/rub/interfere with the prop governor line behind it. In this configuration, I've about 1/2" clearance behind the FT-60. Some notes: 1) The 124F002-4CR-0034 is the shortest possible length; 2) The "F" indicates firesleeved. If 124J (i.e. integral fire resistant silicon) is used, the minimum length is 4-1/2"; 3) 124J is not as flexible as 124F especially at the ends. Parker/Stratoflex 124 hose part numbers are available in the 106-124 catalog from Parker website.  Thu Feb 26 20:21:34 2009 - Been meaning to take a picture of this and talk with Larry Vetterman. Otherwise, the exhaust fits like a glove.   Thu Feb 26 17:53:36 2009 - I called up MilSpec the other day to ask for some "-2" studs. They offered to replace all my studs and receptacles for a newer and slightly shorter design so I took them up on it. The new design is pictured on the right. The new threaded insert is _maybe_ 1/32" shorter and the cage is now chrome plated steel (just like the original spring lock). Drilling all the rivets out wasn't too bad. However, drilling out the CherryMax rivets was a new "adventure". Do yourself a favor, and get the process manual from Cherry Aerospace. To me, the trick was to make sure the center punch was performed accurately and then drilled with a #40. The rest is in the process manual.   Sun Feb 22 15:43:06 2009 - Drilled the #30 holes for the EGT probes and installed them. The hose clamps are of the XL variety so I trimmed those, too.  Sun Feb 22 15:09:45 2009 - The AFS manual states that the EGT probes can be placed anywhere between 2"-6", with 3"-4" being optimum, from the exhaust flange. The small blue mark is 2" which would have interfered with the spark plug assembly. The long blue mark is 3" and this is what I went with.
