Thu Feb 26 17:53:36 2009 - I called up MilSpec the other day to ask for some "-2" studs. They offered to replace all my studs and receptacles for a newer and slightly shorter design so I took them up on it. The new design is pictured on the right. The new threaded insert is _maybe_ 1/32" shorter and the cage is now chrome plated steel (just like the original spring lock). Drilling all the rivets out wasn't too bad. However, drilling out the CherryMax rivets was a new "adventure". Do yourself a favor, and get the process manual from Cherry Aerospace. To me, the trick was to make sure the center punch was performed accurately and then drilled with a #40. The rest is in the process manual.
