Sun May 25 16:53:40 2008 - I decided that I'd better get the major firewall penetrations taken care of before things get tight aft of the firewall. So, on to the engine mount. The instructions do not say much in the way of how to do this and the plans are even less help. One thing is for sure: Do not pre-drill the prepunched holes that are meant for the engine mount bosses. I started out by pre-drilling the top right (as facing the firewall) making sure that I was inline with the engine mount boss. Then I worked on the left side. Took a little bit of persuasion to get it lined up perfectly and then I drilled that hole. I ended up with about 1/8" gap between the bottom inboard holes and firewall (this is OK). The bottom outboard holes were flush with the firewall but left a little to be desired in the way of placement. I went ahead and drilled the bottom inboard holes and tightened them so that I had about 1/16" of a gap (just right for some .063" washers that I'll fab later). This moved the outboard bosses outward just enough to at least bring the pre-punched hole within the boss. I then drilled both of the outboard bottom holes. So far, all the holes were pretty easy, but these last two were a LOT harder to drill (yes, my bit was sharp). Something in there was hard and it took a lot of pressure, time, and cutting oil.
