Fri Jul 24 19:37:12 2009 - Hmmm, what the heck is this for? Well, it is the outboard flange of the fuel injection air filter kit. If you go with an AFP setup, be prepared for some PITA's. Frankly, I don't see how the FI airbox from Van's would fit the Bendix configurations either. Oh well, onward through the fog. Greg Young was kind enough to send some pictures of his configuration and I borrowed this idea - which worked out to be the best. Definitely thinking outside the box on this on. Anyways, if you are reading this after you have riveted the left inlet floors you might be in for some extra work, not much, just some head scratching. If not, be sure to read the instructions for the FI airbox before going any further.

Mon Jul 20 20:16:04 2009 - Installed two AN822-8 (steel) fittings using fuel-lube and clocked them to their proper position. The oil lines from Van's seem to fit with out any problems. I did re-clock the fuel pressure fitting on the fuel pump to move the line out of the way, however.

Fri Jul 3 15:12:55 2009 - The final location of the oil cooler. One item on the "need to research" list is if I should make up an aluminium bar that sits between the oil cooler flanges and spacers. I was quite surprise at how soft the aluminium flanges are despite their thickness (.060" if I recall). So soft, in fact, they are easily bent be hand.

Fri Jul 3 12:52:51 2009 - It is a little deceiving to see how much of the lower portion of the oil cooler is behind the cylinder. I almost thought about putting another nut plate at the very bottom-right. It would have been a tight fit. I decided not to tempt fate too much. Plenty of RV's flying without that bolt.

Fri Jul 3 11:27:39 2009 - The view from the inside. Any lower, and the bottom of cooler starts getting blocked off by the cylinder.

Wed Jul 1 15:03:11 2009 - Finally settled on the location of the oil cooler. It was brought to my attention that I'd better make 100% sure that I had room between the cooler and upper cowl. I put the upper cowl on and reached up under and to my shock I barely had enough room. Sure am glad I checked. I ended up lowering it about 3/8".

Tue Jun 30 17:29:50 2009 - Installed the right inlet baffles. I am not sure if the left inlet will also get baffles since the air intake is located there.

Sun Jun 28 18:41:55 2009 - Spent most of the weekend doing the rubber baffles. I've yet to do the inlet ramps but things are getting squared away little by little. I think what I'm going to do later is to silicone the corners together, put the cowl together, make sure everything is in place, let the silicone cure, and finally trim. I think this will produce a nice finished looking product.

Sat Jun 27 18:31:50 2009 - I'm in the middle of baffles and I can not figure out how to do outside corners. Time to get some guidance.

Fri Jun 12 23:43:36 2009 - The right front side is looking good and rear needs some work. I also noticed that I need to adjust the fuel injector line so that there isn't any chance of it chaffing on the baffles.
